I had a wreck recently. How do I find a quality collision repair shop to fix my vehicle?

When researching a collision repair facility, there are many factors to consider. First, regardless of who is at fault for the accident, insurance will most likely be involved in the repair. Insurance companies will undoubtedly want you to use one of their “preferred” or “in network” shops. While their recommendations may be helpful, always remember that you have the legal right to take your vehicle anywhere you choose. Never assume insurance is steering you to the best collision centers.

The collision industry has seen dramatic changes over the years. In the past, only the best collision repair shops were allowed to be on an insurance program. However, now many shops who produce the finest repairs have been removed from these programs.

Why?

Simply, the insurance industry is like any other business, and their goal is to save money. Collision repair centers who do not cater to insurance requests and demands are no longer favored even if their quality and customer service are spot on. Many shops offer discounts to insurance companies and use sub par parts in order to reduce costs for the insurance company.

We always recommend that you do your due diligence when researching a collision repair center. Google and Facebook reviews are excellent ways to see what real customers are saying about their experiences. The Better Business Bureau also provides information on businesses including complaints and ratings.

Other factors to consider when choosing a repair center:

  • Does the repair facility have an actual owner on site overseeing every vehicle’s repair from start to finish?

  • Does the repair facility guarantee their work and offer a life time warranty?

  • Is the collision center locally owned, or is it a corporate “chain” collision shop?
